Event Details
Join us for an immersive audiovisual experience as we illuminate Harriet Jacobs, a fugitive North Carolina enslaved person who hid in a tiny attic garret for seven years. While hiding she planned her escape, fled to the North, and eventually became a key figure in the abolitionist movement.
In celebration of Black History Month, we invite you to explore a to-scale recreation of Harriet’s attic space and listen to readings from her book, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, which was published in 1861.
