Program Description

Event Details

Explore the Southern Campaign of the American Revolutionary War as it led to the pivotal Battle of Guilford Courthouse. After setbacks like Battle of Camden, American forces under Nathanael Greene used strategic maneuvering to weaken the British across North Carolina.

Key engagements included Pyle's Defeat and Weitzell's Mill, both shaping the road to Guilford Courthouse. There, heavy British losses under Charles Cornwallis helped turn the tide of the war. Park Ranger Tom Sobol will share powerful firsthand accounts from newly transcribed pension claims, highlighting the experiences of both Continental and militia veterans.

Free & open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

In partnership with the Lewisville Branch Library, the Lewisville Historical Society hosts bimonthly presentations ranging from local history to information about historical sites to antiquities.

Participants do not need to be members of the society to attend. A short business meeting of the society is held before the featured program begins at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments are served. Programs are free and open to the public. For more information, please contact the library at 336-703-2940 or the Lewisville Historical Society at 336-766-5842.
