Chess Enrichment with Coach Tony is a series of TWO FREE chess workshops for anyone who wants to learn chess strategies from a professional player.  All ages are welcome!  Please register here at the calendar site or at the Clemmons Library front desk. Coach Tony is quite an accomplished chess player. Here is his bio:

Tony Sanders, a highly accomplished Chess Coach, has constantly shown his deep-rooted passion for the game. Tony's chess journey began in 2004 as a Glenn HS Bobcat in a culture surrounded by online games and early memes, and since then, he has dedicated himself to understanding the intricacies of chess through rigorous study and practice. Tony started competing in 2009, constantly seeking out tough opponents from North Carolina up to Columbus Ohio. Through years of dedication and planning, Tony has maintained a USCF rating in the 85th percentile in North Carolina, placing him among the top 215 players in the state. Additionally, his online ratings consistently rank in the 90th percentile across all time formats.

Beyond his own achievements in chess, Tony has established himself as a sought-after coach, guiding students to success both individually and as part of teams. His coaching tenure at Atkins High School's and Hanes Middle School's Chess Teams from 2014 to 2018 yielded impressive results at the Scholastic State Championships, showcasing his ability to nurture talent and foster growth in his students. With a track record of success and a commitment to excellence, Tony Sanders is the ideal choice for chess students and parents seeking to elevate their game. Whether you're a beginner looking to learn the fundamentals or an experienced player aiming to sharpen your skills, Tony's expertise and dedication will help you reach your full potential in the world of chess. 

Tony's favorite chess players are Rashid Nezhmetdinov and Tigran Petrosian. His other hobbies include writing comedy, boxing, and learning about Artificial Intelligence and Python.
