Event Details

Join us for a monthly hands-on STEAM class presented by the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Forsyth County Center.

Recommended for children ages 5-11.

This month's topic is "Fermented Foods." In this lesson, youth will learn how bacteria is used to ferment foods such as yogurt, cheese and kimchi. This lesson will be paired with a reading of a story called No Kimchi for Me by Aram Kim that tells the story of Yoomi, an anthropomorphic cat who doesn’t like kimchi and so is mocked by her older siblings. After the reading students will be able to view and smell several fermented foods and they will learn the difference between good bacteria and bad bacteria.

Registration is encouraged. Register on the N.C. Cooperative Extension's Eventbrite website
